Indonesian Fried Rice and Satay in China Bazaar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Various cuisines authentic to Indonesia was presented in an international charity bazaar dubbed “Love Knows No Border” in Beijing, China. The even initiated by Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry was held last week.

Visitors crowded Indonesian stalls serving various cuisines of the Archipelago including fried rice, fried noodle, chicken satay with peanut sauce, rissoles, donuts, and pandan cake.

According to a press release from the Embassy of Indonesia in Beijing on Tuesday, October 13, the Indonesian stalls also displayed various featured products such as ornaments of Bali decoration, archipelago songket fabric, batik, and various accessories.

The charity event was held to raise funds, in order to improve the living standards of the local society, said Qian Wei, wife of Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi.

Qian Wie, who was accompanied by Wang Yi, says the charity event has been routinely held since 2009, in effort to raise 18 million yuan renminbi to support social aid program and improve the welfare of the people in various provinces, such as Gansu, Henan, Hebei, and Guizhou.

This year, the donation will be dedicated to elementary and middle school teachers in the district of Jinping and Malipo, Yunnan Province, said Qian Wei.

Nearly 100 foreign embassies, representative offices of international organizations, as well as foreign and China companies, participated in this year’s bazaar by opening its own particular stalls.

The Embassy of Indonesia in Beijing participates in the event each year.  This year, the embassy donated 25,000 yuan or Rp50 million to the organizer of the event.  The Indonesian embassy is taking advantage of the activity to introduce Indonesian art and cultures to the people of China, specifically in Beijing.
