TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Immigration Directorate General of the Justice and Human Rights Ministry has arrested 1,069 foreign nationals for immigration violations during a special operation called Bhumi Pura Wira Wibawa operation conducted from May 5 to 7, 2015.
"Most of the foreign nationals arrested are Chinese and South Korean citizens,” said Mirza Iskandar, Director of Investigation and Action of the Ministry said on Friday.
The operation, which was conducted by 120 immigration offices all over Indonesia, found that the most common violations include using tourist visas to work in Indonesia, misuse of working permits, overstay, illegal entry cases and using sponsors from fictitious companies.
According to Mirza, the biggest violations were found at Manokwari 2nd Class Immigration Office in West Papua, where 342 foreign national were arrested, followed by Tual in Maluku (130 foreign nationals), Depok in West Java (80 foreign nationals), Dumai City in Riau (50 foreign nationals), and Belawan in North Sumatera (48 foreign nationals).
He further said that to minimize the violations, the Indonesian Immigration would adopt the information system of foreign nationals supervision. This system, he added, is connected with the Border Control Management system applied in the Immigration Information System (SIKIM).
"Under this system, we will be able to monitor the movement of every foreign national, starting from when they enter Indonesia, during their stay Indonesia and when they leave the country," he concluded.
