TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Monument looked festive today as thousands of people lined up to enter the iconic landmark of Jakarta.
Wahyudin, one of the visitors, said that he and his family left their home at Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, to not get caught in the queue. "I have queued for three hours, just to get on top of Monas," he told Tempo.
Rini Hariani from Monas management claimed that the enormous number of visitors during holiday is mostly due to the cheap entrance fee – even cheaper than Ancol beach. "Our cheap tickets draw people to come here," she said.
Rini said that the total visitors of today reach 10,596 people. The number, however, failed to top Christmas holiday visitors, which reached 11,181 people.
