TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hong Kong Police have arrested Rurik Jutting, a Briton who is the prime suspect in the murder of two women in his lavish apartment in Hong Kong's Wanchai District. The women were found without any clothing and had suffered from severe injuries to their necks.
"We have arrested a man on November 1, in relation to a murder cases in an apartment in Wanchai District, Hong Kong," said a police official, as quoted by The Telegraph on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
One of the murder victims is known to be Sumarti Ningsih, an Indonesian national who is suspected to have worked as a sex worker in Hong Kong. Ningsih's body was found stuffed in a suitcase which was left lying on the balcony of Jutting's apartment. "Ningsih has been dead for around five days," said the police.
Hong Kong Police revealed that the other victim is a Filipino sex worker, which was found naked and dead on the floor of Jutting's apartment.
Authorities explained that the case began when Jutting came home to his apartment with two women after a Halloween Party on October 31, 2014. Shortly afterwards, police received a phone call reporting the deaths of two women.
Armed with CCTV recordings of the apartment complex, Hong Kong Police moved to establish Jutting as the prime suspect. When police came to his apartment, Jutting seemed restless and worried - it was then when police realised that there are two bodies in a state of near-decapitation that had suffered from a number of stab wounds in the apartment.
Jutting has since been placed under police custody and processed at Eastern Magistrates Court on November 3, 2014. The 29-year-old man is expected to be handed heavy sentences for his involvement in the two murders.
