TEMPO.CO, Cairo - The Egyptian government has opened its border with Gaza to allow medical aid in for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict victims following accusations that it has abandoned its role of mediating both countries.
"We have extensive and full contact with all parties concerned, either directly or internationally. Our main objective is to stop Israeli aggression. We are in full contact and pushing very hard to provide all humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians in Gaza,” said spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry Badr Abdelatty.
Israel's fighter planes had attacked Palestine on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in an attempt to eradicate suspected militants on the Gaza Strip. At least 80 Palestinians were killed. After the initial airstrike, Israel continued to launch more attacks and mobilize 40,000 military personnel in a ground operation.
Hamas officials accused Egypt of no longer active as a negotiator over the last few months. In 2012, Mohamed Morsi, who served as the Egyptian president during that time, was praised for successfully mediating a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine swiftly.
