TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State-owned enterprise Pertamina will hold a tender for the procurement of 6.6 kiloliters of biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester/FAME) this week. The bid is held in order to meet Pertamina's biofuel need for the next two years.
"Each year, the company needs 3.3 million kiloliters," said Pertamina spokesman Ali Mundakir in a press conference yesterday.
With such a large volume of biodiesel, Pertamina hopes to be able to cut down the cost of fuel imports down to US$2.6 billion per year, or around a total of Rp29.5 trillion.
With 25 licensed biofuel producers, Indonesia currently has the capacity to produce up to 5.6 million kiloliters of biofuel on an annual basis. Every year, 4.5 million kiloliters of biofuel is ready to produce.
