Makassar Folk Fair, a Tribute for the City's Cleaning Workers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Makassar's local government held a folk fair as a peak of Adipura (award for cleanest city) celebration at Losari tonight. The erection of twin Adipura cup monument of Makassar was also became a part of the event.
"This is folk's fair, so I am expecting all people can rejoice the fair at Losari Beach," said Assistant I of Makassar Local Government, Sittiara Kinang, in Makassar City Hall, yesterday.
According to Sittiara, this is a folk festival which is designed as the peak of Adipura carnival march that had been held for one week in 14 districts. "Today (yesterday) is the last carnival in Ujung Pandang district," he said.
Sittiara added that tomorrow's folk festival is designed to entertain the public. Also, as a tribute for the cleaning workers who have worked hard keeping the city clean. Sittiara, who is also the chair of Adipura Carnival Committee added that a semi-drama or semi-theatrical performance that tells the process and struggles of the cleaning workers in the field will be held as a tribute to the workers.
The fair will be started at 19:00 local time and to be opened by the Mayor of Makassar Ilham Arief Sirajuddin, along with the launching of the twin Adipura monument which is designed by Muhammad Ramdhan (Danny) Pomanto. Danny is an urban development planning consultant for Makassar Local Government and will go forward as a candidate for mayor in the next mayor election.
Chief of Makassar Sanitation Department Muhammad Kasim said that Makassar achieved the appreciation awards of Metropolitan category, namely Adiwiyata for schools, and Adipura for Makassar's city cleanliness.
Kasim added that to keep the city clean, he would propose to add 10 more cleaning workers in every district. The city is ideally swept two times a day, while workers have only done it once a day so far.
