PUPR Minister Departs to Papua following Istaka Karya Murder

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono will depart to Wamena, Papua, to see the situations there following the murder of Istaka Karya workers a few days ago.
“The TNI (Indonesian Military) Commander and I will go to Wamena tonight, to see the conditions there,” Basuki said at his office in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 4. Tonight, the victims are planned to be evacuated and brought to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta.
Basuki said he had sent his team to Papua to check the information about the murder. “We are waiting for a more certain report regarding the incident and victims,” he said.

Earlier, the Head of Papua Police PR Sr. Comr. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said 31 Istaka Karya workers were allegedly killed by an armed group on December 2.
The victims were construction workers of the bridge of Yigi River and Aurak River, Yigi District, Nduga Regency, Papua.
“I am, on behalf of the PUPR Ministry, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and Istaka Karya, expressing our deep condolences,” said Basuki. He said that the victims who died would be given awards.
