TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Deputy Minister Maridiasmo said the government still delved into the legal basis and mechanism of the planned provision of operational funds for sub-districts.
The issue has seized the public limelight since President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo pledged last weekend to earmark the funds beginning next year.
Maridiasmo explained the government was still seeking a regulation to become the legal basis of the sub-district operational funds. “We will discuss it. We will study which one is the simplest,” he said in Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday, October 22.
He said the government wanted the funds to be akin to those for villages, and that there were several issues that called for further review—including the amount and the distribution process.

He explained some sub-districts in several cities had limited funds despite having to allocate money for development and poverty alleviation.
He added the government had long deliberated the issue although President Jokowi had only announced it recently. “We strive to accommodate and communicate it with the Home Affairs Ministry, we coordinate it all, so we develop it,” he said, adding that the plans had been brought up since the Law on Villages on village funds was issued.
