TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The West Java provincial government will organize a coffee exhibition dubbed Ngopi Saraosna Vol 6 at the courtyard of Gedung Sate Bandung, on October 12-13. As many as 64 coffee booths will participate in the event and 10,000 cups of coffee will be freely given to visitors.

West Java governor Ridwan Kamil said the event would be participated by ambassadors from countries with a special interest in coffee. In addition, a number of celebrities such as Nicholas Saputra, Dewi Lestari, d'Masiv, Mustache and Beard, and Homogenic, will also enliven the coffee exhibition.

Ridwan Kamil, also known as kang Emil, said in a press release received Thursday, Oct. 4, that the Ngopi Saraosna was prepped in a more cozy, relaxing, and romantic concept. "It’s not going to be too formal. There are a lot of instagramable spots here. I want a more cozy atmosphere," he said.

Kang Emil hoped the Ngopi Saraosna would boost West Java as a coffee producer. "The goal of this event is to make people recalling West Java when they talk about Indonesian coffee," he said.

He explained that the first coffee entering West Java was from Africa that was brought by traders from India. They named the coffee after a region in India, Malabar.

The colonial government then introduced the coffee worldwide and received positive responses, especially from South American countries. To date, the image of coffee is still attached to those countries.

“I want Indonesia, especially West Java, take back the image [of coffee]. And one of the attempts is by promoting through the Ngopi Saraosna event," Ridwan Kamil remarked.
