TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra's Jakarta Regional Council (DPW) would propose its chairman Muhammad Taufik as Jakarta Deputy Governor to the party's Chairman Prabowo Subianto.
Muhammad Taufik confirmed that he is the only candidate nominated by Gerindra Jakarta to replace Sandiaga Uno, who resigned to accompany Prabowo to run for the 2019 Presidential Election.
"Yes, we haven't sent the name to Prabowo yet, but we ensure [the candidate name] has been decided, and we will submit it later to Gerindra Central Executive Board [DPP]," said Taufik who is also the deputy speaker of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) on Thursday, September 13, 2018.
Taufik said that candidate names were first discussed in the DPW level, and later proposed to the DPP. Tehrefore Taufik is currently waiting for Prabowo Subianto's permit.
Earlier, Coordinator of Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) Donal Fariz, said that Muhammad Taufik, who was a corruption convict, would tarnish the image of the city's governor Anies Baswedan.
Meanwhile, the Prosperity and Justice Party (PKS) reportedly would propose six candidate names, namely Mardani Ali Sera, Ahmad Heryawan, Ahmad Syaikhu, Nurmansjah Lubis, Sakhir Purnomo, and Abdurrahman Suhaimi.
Taufik refused to further comment on the names. "Don't ask me the matters of PKS," Taufik said.
Taufik went on to say that Gerindra has not talked yet with PKS regarding the candidates of Jakarta deputy governor to be submitted to DPRD. According to him, the meeting on the issue would be held after both parties decided its respective candidate.
