Puan Maharani Delivers Asian Games Invitation to Kim Jong Un

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coordinating minister for human development and culture Puan Maharani arrived in North Korea on Monday morning, July 30, to directly invite North Korea leader Kim Jong Un to attend the establishment of 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
“Our main purpose here is to deliver an official invitation for President of North Korea to attend the Asian Games Opening Ceremony on August 18,” said Puan, who is also the supervisory board of the games, in a written statement.
Puan was welcomed and met Kim Yong Nam on behalf of Kim Jong Un in North Korea Central Government Office. Accompanying Puan Maharani was the Indonesian Contingent Head Comr. Gen. Syafruddin.
The meeting talked on the preparation of the games and other issues, such as both countries bilateral partnership, regional issues, as well as police performance in stemming terrorism in Indonesia.
Syafruddin as the National Police Deputy Chief ensured the safety for all leaders of countries and contingents participating Asian Games, including North Korea leaders.
“It’s my duty to provide assurance for all countries in the world, Asia, including North Korea, that the safety in Indonesia is stable. Don’t worry or even doubt,” said Syafruddin.
After having lunch, Puan Maharani handed out the icons of the 18th Asian Games, namely Kaka, Atung, and Bhin bhin. Asian Games will be opened on August 18, 2018, despite several sports will start earlier on August 10. As many as 45 countries will participate in this the four-year multi-sports event.
