TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The light rail transit (LRT) in Palembang, South Sumatra, will become a means of transport for the public after serving the 2018 Asian Games from August 18-September 2.
“Indeed, the infrastructure and transportation facilities (LRT) are in the early stages of its operation for the Asian Games special transportation. But after that, it will be used as a means of mass transportation for the community,” said the Assistant of Government and People's Welfare (Kesra) of South Sumatra Secretariat, Ahkmad Najib, in Palembang, Monday, July 16.
On the weekend, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said LRT Palembang was a project by the central government to support the Asian Games.

In addition to the LRT, the Musi IV and Musi VI bridges are also erected to alleviate traffic in the Ulu and Ilir areas of Palembang.
The Palembang-Indralaya, Ogan Ilir is also built to ensure smooth traffic during the Games.
On Friday, July 13, President Jokowi tested the LRT Palembang. According to him, the LRT is not only a solution to congestion, but also an alternative means of transport for residents in the South Sumatra's capital after the Games. “I want the LRT to become an example, in a big city that is getting packed and crowded,” he said.
