Trial on Odd-Even Policy Expansion Starts Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The trial of private vehicle restrictions through the odd-even policy in Jakarta roads starts today, July 2. The policy is planned to fully effective in August as to support the 2018 Asian Games.

Jakarta government along with Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) and Jakarta Police through coordination meeting concluded to impose the policy.

“From the modeling that we have done, the odd-even policy will reduce congestion by 30 percent,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency deputy head Sigit Wijatmoko at Jakarta Police HQ on Monday, June 25.

Thus far, the odd-even policy had been imposed in Jl. Sudirman, M.H. Thamrin, and part of Jl. Gatot Subroto. The expansion will then be applied to several main roads including Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. S. Parman, Jl. M.T. Haryono, Jl. D.I. Panjaitan, Jl. Ahmad Yani, and Coca-Cola intersection or Perintis Kemerdekaan Cemput, as well as Jl. Arteri Pondok Indah, Jl. Rasuna Said, and Jl. Benyamin Sueb.

The expansion also affects its period which will be started at 06:00 am until 21:00, compared to the previous time at 06:00-10:00 am and 17:00-20:00 pm. The regulation will valid during the establishment of 2018 Asian Games and that subject to apply afterward.

“If it [the odd-even policy] proves to be effective and good, why not to maintain it,” said BPTJ head Bambang Prihartono, on June 26.
