TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati rebutted House of Representatives` (DPR) deputy speaker Fadli Zon`s remark that the Eid allowance (THR) increase was decided based on political motives.
Sri implied that as a member of the House, Fadli should have known that the allowance hike for civil servants, members of the TNI, the Police and retirees had been decided—and approved by legislators—since a year ago.
"But he's a member of the DPR; the deputy speaker. The state budget law had been approved a long time ago," she said at the parliament complex on Thursday, May 24.
Fadli Zon's remark was also repudiated by Asman Abnur, the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform. Asman said that the allowance hike was based on performance improvements of civil servants, as recorded in the report of government agencies' performance accountability (LAKIP).
Fadli Zon had said that there are implicit political motives in the passing of the presidential regulation concerning the Eid allowance of civil servants, TNI members, the Police force, and pensioners. Fadli said that the hike commonly happens when the country is entering a political/elections year.
