BEI Director Comments on Anies-Sandi Plan to Divest Beer Share

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) demanded Jakarta officials Anies Basweadan and Sandiaga Uno realize their plan on divesting the shares in beer company PT Delta Djakarta Tbk.

Jakarta administration ensured to let go the city’s shares this year to the majority shareholders, the Philipines-based beer manufacturer San Miguel Malaysia Pte. Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno mentioned Jakarta has 23.34 percent of shares.

BEI President Director Tito Sulistio expressed his appreciation to Jakarta administration for announcing the plan. He suggested Anies-Sandi to eventually divest the share considering the information has affected the market.

“I’m glad for this openness, but in my opinion, don’t halt the plan because it’s been announced and that Pak Anies has affected the market,” Tito said on Friday, May 18.

Tito mentioned the divestment process could follow the existing regulation which he considered the tender offer scheme is not required for the party to take the share is the majority shareholder.

San Miguel itself already has 58.34 percent of shares and could be increased to 81.68 percent should the Jakarta administration under the reign of Governor Anies Baswedan divest the city’s share.
