Terrorist Aman Abdurrahman should be Sentenced to Death: Expert

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Expert on terrorism Al Chaidar argues that the mastermind behind the terrorist cells in Indonesia, Aman Abdurrahman should be charged with the most severe sentencing at the South Jakarta District Court on Friday, May 18.

“He should be charged with the death sentence,” said Al Chaidar on Wednesday, May 16.

Aman Abdurrahman, also known as Oman Rochmin is the leader of the radical Jemaah Anshorud Daulah (JAD) that has adopted the ISIS ideology. It is said that the recent terror attacks in the Mobile Brigade headquarter, Surabaya Church bombings, Sidoarjo bomb, and the latest attack at the Riau police headquarters.

Aman is also charged for being the mastermind behind other terror attacks such as the Kampung Melayu and Sarinah bombings in Jakarta, up to the bombings in a Church in Samarinda. He was arrested at the police mobile brigade detention center under extreme surveillance of the anti-terror squad Densus 88.

Furthermore, the team of prosecutors said that other preparations concerning the trial is requesting for the Densus 88 to present Aman Abdurrahman at the court trial. However, according to a member of the team of prosecutors, Mayasari, the team cannot confirm yet whether Aman can be presented in court considering that terror attacks are in the rise.

The verdict trial for the terrorist leader was actually scheduled to take place on Friday, May 11. However, it was cancelled for technical reasons.
