TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The universities are required to provide supporting service of teaching and learning for people with disabilities. Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir will call the university rectors who do not fulfill the state responsibility to ensure that there is no discrimination.

"The university should not refuse if they [disabled people] pass the selection," said Nasir after reviewing the implementation of Joint Entrance Selection of State Universities (SBMPTN) at Ganesha Education University Singaraja, Bali, Tuesday, May 8.

“If it has not prepared, the rector will be called by me because this is a part of the state responsibility, there should not be discrimination,” he said.

Nasir warned that people with disabilities should have equal opportunity and without discrimination in obtaining the education. The supporting service of the educational activity is contained in the Minister of Research and Technology Regulation No. 46 of 2017.

A number of universities have provided supporting facilities for students with disabilities such as Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya, Sebelas Maret University, and Yogyakarta State University.

This year, the SBMPTN is followed by 1,078 participants from Package C and 365 participants with disabilities consisting of 122 deaf participants, 107 blind, 43 speech impaired and 93 disabled participants. The 2019 SBMPTN is followed by as many as 860,001 people to enter the 85 state universities.
