TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The tariff war between online motorcycle taxis (ojek) lingers. Member of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Labor and Transmigration Committee Irma Suryani Chaniago said they have sent a letter to online ojek applicators to agree on a flat tariff to stop this war.
"They should be competing in services—not tariffs," she told Tempo on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
Meanwhile, she said that the House has not started discussing the demand to revise Law no.22/2009 on Traffic and Road Transportation, which would acknowledge two-wheeled vehicles as a means of public transportation.
On March 28, DPR held a meeting with representatives of online ojek companies to set a flat rate for their transportation services. However, Grab refused to raise their tariff.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said he would not intervene the meeting. "I cannot force them," Budi said in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 10, 2018.
Last week Grab Indonesia managing director Ridzki Kramadibrata said they will not accept drivers' demand for a tariff hike, as it has the potential to lower the drivers' income.
Online ojek drivers plan to stage more protests and demonstrations until their demands are fulfilled.
