Jatibaru Street in Tanah Abang area in Jakarta.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police questioned today Jakarta Transportation Agency deputy chief Sigit Wijatmoko in relation to the closing of Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. Sigit was quizzed by personnel from the Jakarta Police's Special Crime Investigation Directorate.

“This is the initial examination as a witness, we'll explain everything," Sigit said at the Jakarta Police headquarters in South Jakarta, Friday, March 8.

Sigit was accompanied by the agency's traffic management head Ferdinand Ginting for the questioning. Besides the two, the police also summoned representatives from the Land Transport Academy (STTD) of the Transportation Ministry as expert witnesses.

Sigit said his agency would only clarify the traffic engineering during the road closing and traffic load on alternative routes before and after the closing.

“As for the legal aspect, it will be delivered exclusively by the Legal Bureau,” he said.

Previously, Cyber Indonesia’s frontman Jack Lapian reported Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan for closing Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Tanah Abang to the Jakarta Police on February 22. Jack, a partisan of Ahok's, said the closing had taken place for two months since December 22 but sans legal protection.

Jack claimed the road closing had triggered new problems as street vendors continued to mushroom on the capital's sidewalks, which was against existing regulations. The police questioned Jack on his report on the closing of Jl. Jatibaru on March 5.
