TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An online shopping service ShopBack did a survey in Indonesia to see the shopping behavior pattern in welcoming Valentine`s Day on February 14. The online survey participated by more than 1,100 respondents aged 18-38 years old from Jakarta greater area, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, and Makassar.
The result shows that half of the women in the survey like to buy Valentine gifts. From the result released on the site, many respondents like to buy the gift around 4-7 days before the Valentine’s Day. More than halves are willing to spend money around Rp100,000 to Rp300,000, and the other 23.9 percents like to buy gifts with a price around Rp300,000 to Rp600,000. The remaining 21 percents are more than Rp600,000.

Chocolates still become the most favorite gifts on Valentine’s Day. It is shown that more than 50.4 percents of the participants like to buy chocolate, 33.2 percents like to invite their partner to dinner, 23.6 percents like to buy rings, 17.1 percents like to buy dolls while buying flower and cosmetics is 15.2 percents and 13.9 percents, respectively.
As much as 54.9 percent of respondents claimed that they will buy gifts for their partner on Valentine’s Day and 54.1 percents women are excited to give something to their partner on that day.

Before e-commerce become popular, 74.1 percent respondents used to buy the gift in conventional shops and 25.6 percents on the online shop. As much as 47.7 percents of respondents said that e-commerce makes them like to buy gifts online. The number is increased up to 2 times more than before the e-commerce exist.
Based on the survey, women prefer to buy something other than flowers. The promotions and discounts become the main reason they buy on the online shops. The average participants are spending their money more than Rp1,000,000 to buy Valentine gifts.
