Govt: High-Speed Rail Project Likely to be Expanded to Yogyakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan mentioned that high-speed rail project as Jakarta-Bandung will likely be expanded up to Solo or Yogyakarta.
"Up to Yogyakarta or perhaps to Solo," Minister Luhut said in Yogyakarta on Friday, Feb. 9.
Luhut stated that the government is currently reviewing the chances of extending the route up to Solo or Yogyakarta.

"We are making calculations, it is possible (to extend it to Solo or Yogyakarta) but this is still in an early stage," he said.
According to plan, he went on, the government is focusing on expediting the completion of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail. "Let’s see, we are still focusing on Jakarta-Bandung," he continued.
Government targets the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail to complete and operate by 2020. The construction of the project is scheduled to begin in May 2018.
