TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said that the administration will build a waste to energy plant in Sunter, North Jakarta.

The project will be developed under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme between city-owned PT Jakarta Propertindo and Finnish power company Fortum Power and Heat Oy.

“Waste Garbage that has been troubling us will become an energy solution through the development of a waste to energy plant,” Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said on December 14 at the City Hall.

Sandiaga explained that the plant will process 2,000-2,200 tons of waste per day or 30 percent of Jakarta waste and turn it into electricity with a capacity of 35 MW.
PT Jakpro CEO Satya Heragandhi said that the thermal technology will be used to process the waste.

Satya said that the length of the cooperation with Fortum is 25-30 years. The investment value in the project reaches US$250 million (Rp3.3 trillion).

Aside from developing a power plant, Satya said that the project will create more quality jobs with the latest European standard technology. “There will be eight fields of quality expertise that needs 500-600 workers,” Satya said.
