TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said the findings of Indonesian Ombudsman revealing Public Order Agency’s (Satpol PP) members allegedly collected illegal fees from street vendors occurred before he took the office.

Therefore, Sandi instructed the Jakarta Public Order Agency head to investigate the issue.

“It happened in August. That was before we [Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno] took the office,” Sandi said at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Sunday, November 26.

Sandi promised that if the findings were proven to be true, the members would be sanctioned under Government Regulation No. 53/2010 on civil servant disciplinary actions.

Earlier, Ombudsman reported the corrupt practices committed by a number of Public Order Agency members. Ombudsman also revealed a video footage showing that the members leaked information about raids to be conducted to street vendors.

Sandiaga claimed that there has been no confirmation yet that the person in the video footage is a Public Order Agency member.

“We also need help from journalists to identify the person using the latest face recognition software,” Sandiaga Uno said. “We have not yet used face recognition software, but other members of the Public Order Agency said they did not recognize the person.”
