TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A mystical traditional art performance from Limapuluh Kota in West Sumatra will be one of many art performances featured in the Payakumbuh Botuang Festival (PBF) 2017 that will be held from November 26 to December 2.
“We will perform a composition that explores traditional Sirompak art performance from Limapuluh Kota,” said musical composer Alex Septiono on Friday, November 24. La Paloma will be performing the music composition.
Alex added that a special saluang (flute) would be needed so the audience would be able to understand the poetry which will be used as a bridge to conjure jinns or demons.
The lyrics will contain 33 spells that are composed into a continuous vocal melody dubbed “Buaian Si Jundai.”
“We will interpret the communication between the doer (Mambau) and the demon (Mambang),” he said.
Payakumbuh Botuang Festival leader Andra Nova said that the festival will be held in two separate locations which are at the city’s center and the rural area of South Payakumbuh.
