Indonesia to Assist Marawi City in Deradicalization

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Government will support the Philippine government’s attempts to deradicalize Marawi City after it was freed from the control of a terrorist group.

“Other than their reconstruction and infrastructure developments, Indonesia will support Marawi’s education and deradicalization sector,” said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi during the trilateral ministry’s meeting between Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines on Sunday, November 12.

Indonesia is also prepared to help develop a curriculum on the education of religion and will provide more scholarships for the students living in Marawi.

The trilateral meeting is a follow-up from the previous trilateral meeting. The partnership between Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines was formed to improve the effectiveness of handling overseas organized crime, especially regarding terrorism in the Sulu Sea and Sulawesi.
