TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian movie Pengabdi Setan (devil worshiper) is invited to be screened at the 37th Hawaii International Film Festival in November.
Korean CJ Entertainment representative Min Yoon said that the festival is the perfect event to internationally showcase Asian movies with the good quality.
According to Min Yoon, Pengabdi Setan is a special movie since it received international appreciation and especially the film is directed by renowned Indonesian director Joko Anwar.
The film is the remake of the original Pengabdi Setan movie produced in the 1980s which attracted the international cult classic film fans.
The curiosity from international moviegoers has generated screening requests from three countries. Min Yoon claimed that the three countries have contacted the production house for a screening of the movie, although Yoon was reluctant to mention the countries specifically.
In the new Pengabdi Setan movie, the production house Rapi Film has partnered with CJ Entertainment for its international distribution and sales.
Rapi Film producer Gope T. Samtani said that the partnership was based on the fact that the original film produced in 1982 had an international market, and they are confident that the new Pengabdi Setan movie can follow the footsteps of the original.
