Instagram Removes Video of Sisters Committing Suicide in Bandung

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Instagram has removed a video showing two sisters committing suicide by jumping from an apartment in Bandung City on Monday. The video, which had been collected by the police as evidence, has been doing the rounds on social media.
The video had been uploaded on Instagram account @makrumpita before it was removed. “Postingan sebelumnya dihapus dari pihak IG – Mak posting ulang tanpa posting videonya ya,” (The post has been removed by IG – I have reposted the info without the video) the account said as it uploaded screenshots of the video and the suicide story published on online media outlets.

Social media observer Nukam Luthfie told Antara news agency that the act of sharing suicide video is unethical. “People don't quite understand that it was not against the law, but is unethical,” he said today.
He added that social media users in Indonesia tend to quickly share the latest info while taking pride on being the first to do so.
He said that many are not yet understand whether it is appropriate to circulate certain information, including suicide videos.
