TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced that reports related to Eid gift accepted by civil servants and state organizers have increased. KPK’s Graft Director Giri Suprapdiono said that the increase occurred in the past two years.
According to Giri, there are 35 reports related to the Eid day gift, which is mostly food and beverages parcel, kitchen utensils, precious gemstone, and furniture worth Rp35.8 million in 2015.
In the following year, the report increased ten-fold resulting to 371 reports of unethical gift giving. The items that were given was worth Rp1,1 billion in total.
“These are from people who reported it, there might be more who have yet to realize to report the gifts they receive,” Giri said on Friday, June 23.
The regulation set in Article 12B (1) of Law No. 31/1999 on the Corruption Eradication.
This regulation firmly states that every gift given to civil servants or state organizer is considered a bribe if it is related to the person’s position and opposed to the person's duty and obligation.
“Every gift must be refused or reported,” said KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo. He said the gift accepted by a state official is considered a graft if they do not report it within 30 days.
