TEMPO.CO, Malang - Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir threatened to impose sanctions against lecturers and students involved in radicalism and terrorism.
Nasir claims that university presidents are free from radicalism and terrorism. “Rectors have been cleared [of radicalism],” Nasir said in Malang today, May 24.
According to Nasir, his ministry is drafting a regulation aimed at preventing radicalism and terrorism from spreading at university campuses. “We’re drafting a regulation, including sanctions,” he added.
Nasir revealed that he has been in communications with Legal, Political and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto regarding the regulation draft.
However, the minister pointed out that no students and lecturers have been found involved in terrorism and radical movements. He also required all universities to craft state defense programs for their students.
Malang State Islamic University (UIN) rector Maulana Malik Ibrahim Mudjia Rahardjo has guaranteed that his campus is free of radicalism and terrorism. UIN Malang, he explained, always respects diversity.
“We reject ideologies that oppose the Unitary State of the Republic Indonesia and the legitimate government,” he said.
