TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja purnama or Ahok said that he will continue the Jakarta Bay reclamation project. However, Ahok said that he will wait for the permit to continue the reclamation project that has not yet been issued by the central government following a moratorium order issued by three ministries.
“We will give it a green light once the permit is issued by the central government. What’s important is that we have never revoked the permit. It was only postponed by the Environment and Forestry Ministry. So, when they issue the permit, we’ll continue the project. We never issued a permit to officially halt the project,” Said Ahok on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
Previously in April 2016, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the Maritime Affairs and Fishery Ministry agreed to postpone the Jakarta bay reclamation project. The ministries and the Jakarta administration formed a joint committee to discuss the reclamation project.
The Jakarta administration has issued a new permit for developer PT Kapuk Naga Indah, a subsidiary of Agung Sedayu Group to continue the reclamation. Environmental permits were issued for developers of islets C and D on Friday last week since the requirements have been met.
Private developers working on the project are also urged to issue a new and more comprehensive Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL).
