TEMPO.CO, Cianjur - At least 13 people were killed in a deadly accident that took place in Ciloto Village, Cipanas Sub-district, West Java on Sunday.
The accident happened after a private bus swerved off a mountain road and plunged into a 15-meter deep ravine in Puncak-Cianjur street in Cipanas Sub-district.
Yudi, an witnesses, said the bus heading to Cibodas botanical garden suddenly ran out of control due to abrake malfunction while going down on the road.
The bus hit several vehicles in front of it as well as other vehicles, including two minibuses and motorcycles that came from the opposite direction.
"After the accident, a number of police and military officers rushed to help the victims. I saw at least 10 people dead on the spot, apart from those inside the two minibuses and the bus having the brake failure," Yudi said.
AS time of writing, officers tried to evacuate victims being trapped in the vehicles involved in the accident.
Puncak is a busy holiday area near Jakarta and is often packed with vehicles, especially on weekends. The area has also seen many deadly accidents. One week ago, at least three people were killed and 20 others injured in a collision on involving a bus, a minibus, six cars and five motorcycles in Puncak.
