TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Traffic Policeman Adj. First Insp. Sunaryanto received an award for his bravery in rescuing a mother and her toddler from a hostage situation taking place in a public minibus at Buaran, East Jakarta on Sunday, April 9, 2017. The award was given by Insp. Gen. Mochammad Iriawan at the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

"With a high level of dedication, and an amazing sense of sacrifice, and well calculated, [Sunaryanto] was able to save our citizens from violent life-threatening threats," Iriawan said during the awarding ceremony.

Iriawan said that Sunaryanto's actions helped to improve Police's image, especially the Jakarta Metro Police. Iriawan even claimed that the public trust for the police have increased because of Sunaryanto's heroic action.

In addition to Sunaryanto, the Jakarta Metro Police Chief also handed out awards for 22 police personnel for various achievements.
