TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tourism brand Wonderful Indonesia wins the title of The Best Exhibitor 2017 at the world's biggest tourism expo at the Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB) Berlin in Germany. "It's a prestigious achievement. ITB Berlin is the world's biggest tourism expo," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
As many as 187 countries participated in the ITB Berlin event, which attended by 10,000 participants and crowded by 180,000 visitors. Tourism industry players, travel agencies, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, resorts, tourist attractions, governments and associations converged at the ITB Berlin.
"Wonderful Indonesia showed its class at the world stage," Arief said.
Indonesia had previously won the same title last year at ITB Berlin.
In 2017, 'Wonderful Indonesia' beat South Korea's 'Imagine' and Thailand's 'Amazing'. Meanwhile, Malaysia was ranked 10th from 75 countries.
Indonesia's participation in the event has also helped book a significant amount of financial transactions over time.
In 2015, for example, Indonesian delegates recorded IDR 4.2 trillion worth of transactions. Last year, the amount rose to IDR 6.5 trillion. "The target for 2017 was IDR 10 trillion," Arief said.
As for next year, the ministry expects to win the title of Best of The Best and the winner of five continents.
