Regional Elections: KPI Tells TV Channels to be Proportional

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has urged TV stations to broadcast information and news in a ‘balanced an and proportional’ way ahead of the simultaneous regional elections in 2017.

KPI Commissioner Hardly Stefano also urged TV stations not to cover news of one candidate only.

Should that happened, Hadly said KPI would directly give a firm warning to those TV stations.

“Until now, no TV station has been declared to commit violations,” Hardly said on Friday.

However, Hardly said that KPI has found several indications of violations done TV stations before regional elections. Even one TV stations has been reported to the Election Commission (KPU) related to the violations.
