KPU Jakarta Sets Regional Election Candidates

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Election Commission (KPU) of Jakarta will set three pairs of the Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor candidates for 2017-2022 period on Monday afternoon, October 24, 2016.

The candidates are Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat (supported by four parties), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni (supported by four parties), and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno (supported by two parties).

Jakarta KPU chairman Sumarno said the pairs have completed the requirements including the incumbent Ahok who has submitted his leave request. "Everything is good," he said Sunday, October 23, 2016.

The regional election in Jakarta has been covered up by media the most if compared to other regions. According to Sumarno, the reason is due to the possibility of two-round voting. The Jakarta Gubernatorial Election is also said as the warming up for the upcoming Presidential Election.

The three pairs will race for 7,439,149 Jakarta voters.
