TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has sent a letter of recommendation to Tangerang Regent in relation to the eviction of Kampung Nelayan in Dadap, Tangerang, on May 18. One of the recommandations says that Komnas HAM is willing to facilitate a mediation between the regent and Dadap residents.
“We are waiting for Mr. Regent’s goodwill. We will help Mr. Regent to hold dialogue with his own residents,” said Roichatul Aswidah, Komnas HAM’s Commissioner of Mediation, at her office yesterday, May 23, 2016.
She believed that Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar will accept the offer. Because she said that Tangerang District administration has suspended the eviction of Kampung Dadap that was scheduled for May 19. “There is progress,” Roichatul said.
Komnas HAM will ask for clarification from the regent in relation to reports from Dadap residents. Roichatul elaborated that on May 4 Komnas HAM received reports from Dadap residents on planned eviction by Tangerang administration. Residents had refused relocation to rental properties and rejected the revamp of their village. Komnas HAM has visited the area on May 16.
