TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Neurologist Ryu Hasan said that sexual disorientation is not contagious. Ryu therefore dismisses the notion that having the wrong friends could lead to sexual disorientation.
"Disorientation is just there and the structure was formed in the brain," said Ryu in a discussion entitled "Myths and Facts About Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgenders" at the Jakarta Legal Aid (LBH Jakarta) Office on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.
Ryu said that sexual orientation has been structured in the brain, therefore it would be difficult to change a person's sexual orientation without changing the neurological structure. Ryu said that sexual orientation is similar to talent, which is hard to change. "We would not be musician if we have no musical talent eventhough we mingle with musicians," Ryu said.
Therefore, if a person is endowed with homosexual orientation, according to Ryu, the person could turn into a homosexual if he/she has friends people who has similar orientation. Whereas people with no homosexual orientation would certainly not be affected even if he/she mingle with homosexuals.
In general, Ryu added, sexual disorientation is not strictly homosexuals. Ryu said that cases of omnisexual can also be categorized as sexual disorientation. "Omnisexuals are people who loves everything indiscriminately, for example people who are aroused by dolls, bottles, there’s even a person who married a bridge," Ryu said.
