TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police will deploy 3,300 joint personnel to secure traffic flow during Chinese New Year next Monday, Feberuary 8.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said thousands of personnel will be deployed to prevent the traffic jam during New Year’s Eve to happen again on Chinese New Year. “We don’t want heavy traffic jam to repeat,” said Tito on Friday, February 5, 2016.
In order to anticipate surge of homecoming, Tito held a meeting with the National Police, Indonesian Army (TNI), and local governments to coordinate. Several spots with tightened security are Cikampek toll road, Cipali toll road, Jagorawi toll road and Tangerang. Security at temples is also enhanced. “We tighten security to monitor people and acts of terrorism,” said Tito.
Air lines and railways will also be secured so that people will not be stuck in traffic jam during homecoming.
Tito hoped the homecoming flow in this year’s Chinese New Year would not be too crowded. However, he calls on people to fully refuel their vehicles before entering toll roads and not to make frequent stops at the side of the road to avoid traffic jam.
