TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi said Indonesia still needs the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) so that all law enforcement agencies carry out their functions in upholding justice.
Regarding limiting the work period of KPK to 12 years, Yuddy said it is up to the House of Representatives (DPR). “The DPR sure have reasons and calculation. They also may have designed a development for legal institutions,” said Yuddy on Thursday, October 8.
Yuddy said the current KPK law is still relevant. However, he appreciated if there was a proposal to revise the law. “We appreciated that because it is the authority of legislative agency. One of the functions of DPR is legislative function.”
Yuddy said what Jokowi wants now is to establish law enforcement agencies that are free from corruption. Through the national bureaucratic reform road map that is based on the mental revolution concept, Yuddy believes that target can be achieved.
If the target has been achieved, he said the KPK would not longer be needed. “It’s just a matter of when which needs thorough assessment.”
The DPR had held a meeting to discuss the revision for the KPK law. The proposal was included in the 20-15 priority national legislation program. The draft says KPK’s work period is only 12 years after the revised law took effect.
