TEMPO.CO, Manado - Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of National Land Agency Ferry Mursyidan promised to speed up certification of land in border regions of Indonesia.
"The certification of land rights in the border region should be implemented to safeguard the territory of Indonesia," he said in Manado on Saturday, September 12.
He made the statement when speaking at a national seminar entitled "Agricultural Policy to Achieve Justice Living Space" in front of Sam Ratulangi University students.
Ferry said that the government needs to accelerate the process of asset legalization over land rights at the border because of there is the potential of it escaping from the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
The process of land legalization will be done on private land, indigenous groups (communal) and government assets in border regions, he said.
Ferry declared the legality of land ownership in border regions will be territorial boundaries between Indonesia and neighboring countries.
Recognition of land assets in the area adjacent to other countries is quite important because there is the potential for the boundary to be shifted.
He revealed the government's recognition of community land tenure security will increase the sense of nationalism. So far, Ferry said, he saw most people simply occupy and settle in the border region but has no certainty of land rights legally.
The Government of Indonesia through the BPN has certified 92 outermost islands as the country’s border.
