TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Government of Banyuwangi Regency, East Java held a Percussion and Children Orchestra Festival at Art and Culture Center (Gesibu) Blambangan on August 1 as part of 2015 Banyuwangi Festival.
According to Banyuwangi Acting Head of Culture and Tourism Agency, MY Bramuda, as many as 100 children from the Radhen Pupus music group are playing variety of traditional music instruments such as angklung, kendang, rebana, gendang, seruling in harmony with modern instruments such as guitar, harmonica, and tambourine. The songs they play include Using (Banyuwangi indigenous tribe) folk songs.
“This event is being held in the purpose of keeping Banyuwangi’s traditional music instruments alive amid current trend of modern music. We hope that children would love the traditional music and develop it,” Bramuda explained as quoted by Antara.
