TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The secretary-general of the Association of the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), Noergadjito, advised motorists to use Pertalite gasoline as it was better than Premium gasoline viewed from its octane level. “It would be much better if motorists use Pertalite,” he said on Tuesday.
Noergadjito added that the issues surrounding the energy sector and the use of renewable technology in the automotive industry are on the rise. He said Gaikindo would hold the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) on August 20 , which would feature a conference on energy. This year's theme is smart cars that promote efficient and environmentally-friendly fuel.
Pertamina’s fuel retail marketing vice president Mohammad Iskandar said Pertalite may be launched after Lebaran this year. Pertamina has not yet decided the fuel’s price. However, Iskandar said the price disparity would be between Pertamax and Premium.
Iskandar said based on a survey the price difference of Rp1,000 could encourage consumers to shift to another type of fuel. “I hope they can shift to Pertalite so that the gas emission is better,” he said.
Pertalite will be targeted at consumers on Java Island, especially in big cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya. “We will also observe the market development,” said Iskandar.
