Govt Urged to Anticipate Soaring Prices Nearing Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, JakartaDeputy Chairman of Commission XI of House of Representatives (DPR), Marwan Cik Hasan, urged the government to anticipate prices increase of basic commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2015.

According to Marwan, it needs to be done so that people will not worry during the holy month. Besides, unstable prices also caused potential scarcity of goods. "Do not let the people’s income whose have been very difficult, exacerbated by the high price and scarcity of basic necessities," said Marwan, on Monday, June 8.

The Democrat Party members have called the possibility of the prices ofbasic commodities will increase. The cause, Marwan said that the situation was not good economic conditions due to the condition of the rupiah against the US dollar which continued to collapse.

For this reason, Marwan wanted strategic need for action from the government that benefits the economy of small communities. For example, he said to ensure the availability of basic goods and price stability. He called the weakening of economic conditions were worrying public particularly the farmers.

"The government should immediately take strategic actions and fully take sides on the small community. The local economy is weak, especially farmers, due to falling prices of agricultural and plantation commodities," said Marwan.

On the other hand Marwan also asked TNI and national police to help distribute basic materials in various regions. The method was useful to maintain the smooth distribution to face the holy month of Ramadan and fasting.
