TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The police will shut down a number of thoroughfares in the capital during some particular hours from April 22-23, 2015 in light of events at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan as part of the 60th commemoration of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC).
Jakarta Police Traffic Department chief Sr. Comr. Risyapudin said the closure would be carried out as AAC delegates would leave for JCC simultaneously. “The closure will take effect from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.,” he said on Monday, April 20, 2015.
The affected roads are Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Jl. Gatot Subroto and other streets heading to the Senayan and Blok M areas. The delegates are expected at the JCC at 9 a.m.
Risyapudin said the roads would be closed again in the afternoon when the delegates returned to their hotels. “There are no schedules yet, it will be situational, when they return [to the hotels],” he said.
Thus, the police call on motorists to adjust their time leaving for work to the planned closure, advising them to leave early or after the closure was concluded. He also explained that the roads would not be closed non-stop, yet rather when delegates were passing.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Warsinem, the Jakarta Police Traffic Department’s Education and Traffic Engineering chief, said heavy traffic were expected during the hours of the closure. “So we advise motorists to find alternatives,” she said.
Warsinem said among the available alternatives were Jl. Pejompongan and Jl. Imam Bonjol and other roads in the vicinity. “Such as an alternative on the route barred from motorcycles,” she said, adding that hundreds of traffic police officers would be stationed around the alternative roads.
