TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Sunardi Sinaga, the head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency’s parking management unit, said his office had made ties with communication operators to introduce electronic parking system in the capital.
Sunardi said among the topics discussed with the operators was for one to find parking spots electronically through cell phones. “We are still reviewing it, and it hopefully it could be applied in 2016 at the latest,” he said on Jl. Boulevard Raya, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
He took for example that if a motorist wanted to go to Gandaria City Mall, he or she could first check for available parking spots through a cell phone.
Sunardi said his office would team with security parking companies and ask them to replace their parking equipment with the ones using cards. He added his office was also targeting to adopt the system for roadside parking in 2018. “For 400 roads in Jakarta,” he said.
