TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Ministry is planning to form a directorate general for teachers and educational staff. Culture and Elementary and Secondary Minister Anies Baswedan said he had proposed to establish the new directorate general to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, aiming at teacher management development.

“We’re still waiting for the presidential decree regarding the new structure,” Anies said in Padang, West Sumatra, on Saturday, January 24, 2015.

According to Anies, the educational bureaucracy management has to be reformed, which is in line with the Jokowi’s mental revolution.

Anies revealed that he would also turn the Ministry’s focus to regions for better development.

“We need to change the perspective. We want to change from reporting what has been done to what has been achieved. Achievement is more important,” he said.

The Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) chairman Sulistyo said one way to implement mental revolution is to prioritize development in education. He also expressed his support to Anies’s idea to form the directorate general for teachers and educational staff.

“For better teacher management, I hope that the commitment would be soon realized,” he said at the PGRI national conference in Padang.
