TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Desmond Junaidi Mahesa, Deputy Chief of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Great National Movement (Gerindra) politician, said that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has insulted the DPR because if his decision to postpone the inauguration of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as the new National Police Chief. Instead, Jokowi appointed Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti as the acting National Police Chief.
"Jokowi should send a letter to the DPR to inform that matter," said Desmond. "It is against the Law [on the National Police]."
Moreover, Desmond accused Jokowi of stalling time. "He has insulted the House twice," said Desmond.
The first insult, as Desmond explained, was by appointing Budi Gunawan as the sole candidate of the National Police Chief in the middle of the investigation on suspicious transaction algedely involving high-ranking police officials. "Jokowi should have noticed earlier and proposed other candidates," he said. Furthermore, Jokowi decided to appoint an acting Police Chief, which Desmond considered to be against the law.
