Bekasi Administration Helpless Against Illegal Buildings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of people from the Indonesian Commoners Movement (GMBI) occupied a land owned by Perum Tirta Jasa II, at Kali Malang river bank, West Bekasi, hampering officials from Bekasi City administration to clear the area from illegal buildings.
“[The execution] is postponed until tomorrow to cool it off,” Bekasi City Urban Planning Agency head Koswara told Tempo on Tuesday, December 09, 2014.
Koswara said the illegal buildings will be cleared to allow road construction connecting Bekasi with Jakarta.
Bekasi Police chief Comr. Sihombing said the local government had canceled the execution, despite police preparation to secure the execution by deploying a 400-personnel joint force.
The Bekasi City administration had set a target to complete the road construction in south Kali Malang next year. The local government will allocate the fund granted by the Jakarta administration for the road construction.
The new road construction was aimed to reduce traffic Jam at Jalan KH Noer Alie, in addition to support West Bekasi III Toll Gate Operation near Grand Metropolitan Mall.
