TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Nigerian woman was rushed to Taipei's Taoyuan General Hospital shortly after arriving in Taipei yesterday. The woman will be placed under strict quarantine until tests results have cleared her from Ebola virus.
Quoting a Channel News Asia report today, the 45-years old woman was showing symptoms of malaria. However, since the early stages of Ebola infection is often misdiagnosed as malaria, Taiwanese authorities were not taking their chances and decided to place the patient in quarantine.
The Head of Emergency Response at Taoyuan General Hospital, Hsu Kuo Fang, said that the blood, urine and stool samples of the patient have been taken and tested, but results are still inconclusive.
The amount of Ebola cases have significantly increased in the past week. Last week, a Dallas man tested positive for Ebola after returning from a trip in Liberia. He was pronounced dead this morning.
Another confirmed case was reported on Monday, October 6, 2014, when a Spanish nurse became infected after taking care of two missionaries who had died on September 25.
